Our final days in Java were spent exploring the ancient Prambanan and Borobudur temples and enjoying food with Jogja locals.

East Java offered smoking volcanoes, rainbow villages and stunning sunrises. It also provided a glimpse into the island’s Dutch history.

The start of our Java journey began with a midnight hike, a blue fire volcano and acidic lake, stunning mountain vistas and colourful towns.

Our Balinese highlight was tucked up in the island's east. We explored the region's fertile rice fields and flowing waterfalls by motorbike.

While it's hard to travel without flying, it's not impossible. So, my partner and I are trying a flight-free journey through Southeast Asia.
